You are reminded of the importance of attending, and better still, giving papers at conferences and your supervisor will be able to advise on how to set about doing this.
There are no funds in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film earmarked for such purposes. However, the sub-committee of the Research Policy Committee will consider applications from postgraduates as well as staff.
If you wish to put in an application, you should discuss the matter first with your supervisor, who will be asked to write in support of your application.
It is advisable to apply as early in the year as possible, as there is heavy competition for these funds.
In addition, unless you are giving a paper, there is a ceiling of £50 on conference grants to research students.
The success of your application will depend not only on its inherent merits, but also on availability of resources, this normally being up to a maximum of £750 per year, per student.
How to apply
A Research Support Application [DOC 78KB] must be completed and forwarded to your supervisor for their supporting statement.
Your supervisor will need to add their supporting statement and submit the form to the Resources Administrator (Research) in SLLF Finance at (firstname.lastname@example.org). Your application will then be considered by the School’s Director of Graduate Studies.
An application submitted in any given month will be considered at the beginning of the following month.
It is advisable allow at least a month between completing your application and the date of the conference. Late or retrospective applications are likely to be rejected.
